Re: Which EV3 version to buy ?
The 45544 set is the LEGO education set, it comes with a nice plastic tub to keep it organized, if you're into that kind of thing. It also uses a more classic style ultrasonic sensor versus the new IR sensor. It does come with a gyro, but does not come with a remote.

Re: NXT Shooting Gallery
I'm sure he could, but then you would be stuck at a cable length from the targets, and not challenged by wireless communication!

Big toy (not LEGO) project (single in, dual out PID?)
Folks, I have been off this board for a long time now. Since I got back from a deployment in 2012, I have been distracted by other projects. For example: 1985 Electric Mustang The car is going to hit the road with a Warp9 Series Wound DC motor driving the car. These motors are great torque/cost, but...

Re: EV3 pre-order?
That seems odd. I have bought things from the US EDU site. Perhaps you just can't pre-order unless you are a school?

Re: Efficiently running RC motor with NXT
I strongly recommend reading this (maybe even saving the link) http://www.philohome.com/motors/motorcomp.htm The problem is the RC motor draws over twice the current of the NXT motors. So you are having a voltage drop issue, in fact it's quite risky to run the RC motor directly from the NXT as you c...

Re: Frictio v/s Precise Movement!
This is just a random idea, but have you looked at how large walking cranes move? They have a big round foot suspended between their landing gear that drops down and lifts the crane up, then rotates to move the large crane in a very precise way along the rough rocky/dirt base of a mine or quarry. It...

Re: MinuteBot Baseplate
Mine is the same way, and some of the holes are a little tight for axles to spin nicely but i think they could be cleaned up with a quick drillbit spin-through. I to have not done much with mine. there is a little video out there of the first contraption I made on it. But it has sat since then, I ha...
