Having trouble getting two bricks to talk via bluetooth...

Post by maglab »

Hello! I've only recently started working with NXT robots and I'm having a bit of trouble.

I want my two bricks to talk to each other - just to send information. I wrote a simple test program in which one sends the other a message and the second one signals that it has received it. But I can't even get to the point of testing it because they fail to connect at all.

All the instructions I've seen say something like: make sure both have bluetooth on and are set to visible, go into 'search' and, when it is done, select 'NXT' and then '1'. It will say connecting, then ask for a pass code on both machines.

But the last thing doesn't happen, it just says 'failed.' Could somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Well, I think you only have to "search" from the one you want to be the master.

I did only search on the master. It said 'failed.'

And you turned on BT on them both? Do you have them within several feet of each other? Make sure you aren't connected to the computer with BT on either of them.

I made sure BT was turned on on both, they're as close as two gameboys trying to mystery gift, and I don't even have BT set up on my computer.

You could update the firmware to the latest version to be sure it isn't hindering things.

I updated the firmware, and it works! Yay!
Oddly, though, it doesn't do it the way I was given to believe it would (confirmation dialog on both machines). Doesn't matter, though, it acknowledges the signal!
Thank you!

Great :D

Yeah, I don't think they both normally ask for confirmation. Anyhow, it should be even easier now to connect, since they have paired once.

What do you plan on doing with the NXTs now? Please post about your project(s) here on mindboards!
