NXT 2.0 + shock absorber suspension

I'm making a LEGO version of the Twente One, a very inovative solar racer. It proves quite a challenge to construct a solid suspended steering construction though.



The only other construction like this I found on the web is this one, which seems very weak.



What I have now works, although I need to get a pair of these yellow springs. It's also a little weak on the angle connectors #1.



I'm just going to play with it a bit more, but any ideas are appreciated.

You can avoid the angle connectors like this:

It does limit the ranges a bit, but I think it might be good enough.

Yea, I think that's the best solution with just the NXT parts. Thanks. I initially discarded that solution before trying it, because I thought the black thing might just pop out under pressure.

For the dutchees, I plan to bring the finished Twente One model to the next meeting in Oss, for the rest, I'll put it up on http://studl.es sometime.

Very cool, I made a car like this that was much smaller and simpler, no suspension, and used a turntable between the main chassis and the rear axle supports. Come to think of it, it wasn't even mindstorms at all, just powerfunctions and IR control. Where did you get these solar panels from?

Haha, this made me laugh. Kind of like saying "Yeah my dog is just like your elephant, except it's not grey, much smaller and doesn't eat leaves, come to think of it, it doesn't have a trunk either."

Yeah, kinda felt stupid while typing that but was too tired to have the sense to censor myself. My project did have a solar panel and three wheels though, so i guess it was more a distant cousin than a different species

I'm looking forward to having time to build, with my move to the states and this deployment I have had no time or stability for any major project. I have however purchased a few toys while here, namely the pneumatic & renewable energy add-ons which i hope to make some fun experiments with.

Xander - have you done or seen any experiments with the energy meter? it got a lot of press but now seems to have fizzled out a bit.

pepinjndevos - sorry for taking over your thread. Your project looks great though. Have you considered a simpler PF motor for driving it? You may find greater efficiency there.
