EV3 brick: max motor port output current

hey,
what is the max output current of the EV3 brick for each motor port for short-time and continuous load ?
(in order to drive more powerful 3rd party DC motors providing higher torque)

As far as I know it uses the same driver chip as PF V2 receiver, so we can expect a much higer current. But this same chip can also be configured with a lower current limitation, and there is probably a battery input limitation (NXT had a 1.8 A rated resettable fuse). We'll need the HDK - or some testing - to make sure!
