(Could you forward it to your friends or relatives who own a Mindstorms set)

That is quite incomplete for me. It is sort of like saying:

Choose your favorite food:
1: Cookies
2: Ice Cream
3: Both equally

See the issue? I know you are only asking about those two options, but what if my favorite is Cake? You didn't even include that one in the list, so the survey isn't complete when figuring out a favorite food overall.

For me, the first question seems incomplete; what about 9797 (the education set)? What if someone pieced their collection together (never got an actual set, like I believe doc-helmut did)? There is no place to say "No".

The second question doesn't allow for the most important step; the design. For me, designing is my favorite part. It's attempting the unknown, trying to accomplish something. It's the thought that goes into it more than the putting together of pieces, or the typing of a program. It is what makes the robot unique.

Question 3 is alright, but note than only 43.3%* of people will select the first option (as a primary option). (*according to the survey by mindsensors.) What about an option other than "Other" for the other 56.7% of us? What about the fact that many use both (as in, NXT-G and "Other")?

For number 4, this is more a matter of what set people own. The only people that should give their opinion (if you want it accurate) are the people that have built both (and preferably at the same time). That means that the person would not only have to have both sets, but have built both of those robots.

Question 5 just doesn't make sense to me.

My answers would be as follows:
C
C
B
A
C

The reasons:
It is true, I have both.
this is the best option available.
Because I primarily use another environment
Because out of those two, I have only built the Tribot.
I don't even know what you mean.

What I would choose (if you had the options):
8527, 8547, 9797.
The design (the figuring out of it, in both areas you suggest).
BricxCC primarily. I also use NXT-G for the NXT, and about 5 others for other stuff.
I don't have a favorite one that lego gives instructions for.
I don't know.

What about those that have a Mindstorms RCX or Scout set?

I'm all for gun control... that's why I use both hands when shooting ;)

mattallen37,
Notice it says "prefer" so it doesn't matter if you like any of the choices, you just have to specify which you like the most of the given.
It never hurts trying to figure out what the person want to figure out when doing a survey. For example he most likely isn't interested in knowing your favorite model X when he just want to know if he should use model A or B for his project.

Anyway, my answers:
I have a NXT 2.0
I prefer programming. (However I have actually always preferred building robots, so I'm actually not too sure what to say. I like both, just not the combination of them...)
I use NXC in Notepad++, I tried NXT-G for a half hour and then threw it out, absolutely hate it.
I like the Shooterbot a lot, the Tribot feels a bit dull imo.
I wouldn't like an aural programming language. (First of all, my English pronunciation is terrible, so I might not even be able to use it...) But mostly because a very-high level programming language like this most likely wouldn't be powerful enough for a person with a programming background like me.

Great idea
  • I have an NXT 2
  • I prefer programming
  • I use NXC in BricxCC
  • I like the Shooterbot better because it actually makes use of the third motor
  • I would like to try to program in plain English but it would probably be too simple for most things
Tim
ps. Good Luck

Just my really late 2 cents:
  • I have 2 NXT 1.0 sets. And two NXT-G 1.1 CDs, so if anyone wants one, post a picture of your head on fire, and I'll gladly send it to you.
  • I prefer programming
  • I program in NXC; I used to use BricxCC as my IDE, but now I use Notepad++ (which isn't actually an IDE by definition)
  • I like the tribot better because... uh...
  • Unless it's the Artificially Intelligent robot using Neural-Networks and has a master plan to destroy the world (like the one doc-helmut is working on), probably not.
