Checking USB thumb drives

Post by h-g-t »

Seeing a post about building a thumb drive into Lego bricks reminded me of this website -

Apparently a lot of drives are small capacity but contain a program which reports a much higher capacity when plugged in. They have compression built in so seem to work ok but are not necessarily storing all the data added to them. You only find out when you try to load info and it is not there.

The website above has a program you can use to check a drive before you use it to avoid data loss/ corruption.

Seems there are scammers everywhere, I saw a recent photo of a hard drive brought back from Russia - contained nothing but a thumb drive and two large bolts to give it some weight!
