Creating gripper / lifter with one engine
Hi everyone!
NXT beginner / short time lurker just turned member here! I love what I've seen so far and am glad to have found this place.
As I'm just starting out with the NXT, I am finding new hurdles and overcoming them several times a day. But one problem that I still haven't been able to find a good solution for is this:
I want to create a device that is able to grab objects in order to then pull, carry or lift them. I've experimented with dozens of builds so far, but I haven't found one that gives me enough flexibility while maintaining a high level of stability. Maybe someone has a few pointers? I'll attach a few photos next to let you know where I stand currently.

Re: Creating gripper / lifter with one engine
The only thing I can think of is the use of clutch gears, to allow the grip, then with the same engine the continued revolutions of the motor for the next movement, be it lift or pull, or what have you.
The definition of insanity is doing a repeated task over and over again, but expecting a different outcome everytime
Re: Creating gripper / lifter with one engine
there has been used such a gripper for a submarine model using pneumatics, and a similar one for a RCX robot gripper (IIRC in the set "Exploration Mars" using a Motor with a Newton wheel).
It 1st closes the gripper and then lifts the arm by a lever system (or lowers it and then opens the gripper).

If you google 'lego gripper' you will find quite a few photos of examples. easier than trying to describe them.
A sophistical rhetorician, inebriated with the exuberance of his own verbosity, and gifted with an egotistical imagination that can at all times command an interminable and inconsistent series of arguments to malign an opponent and to glorify himself.

I did (I don't know if you did) but I could not find fotos of such 1-motor-gripper-arms - but maybe you could show us? ^^h-g-t wrote:If you google 'lego gripper' you will find quite a few photos of examples. easier than trying to describe them.
