I do not trust these free feature rich web hosting, in general way to many users are experiencing issues.
Well if you can afford paid hosting, go right ahead. There is a list of the best Wordpress-supported hosts on Wordpress.org. The trouble with me is I cannot buy products online, and even if I could I probably wouldn't be able to afford it.

I might change the file extension to bypass the requirements for myself, but I would never force other to follow along. It would simply be too difficult for many to figure out.
savedcoder wrote:Although I don't use the developer web, I do use their installation of WordPress for NeXT Commander's news. It has some limitations :( (no theme changes only two themes, forces the title to be "SourceForge.net: Project nextcommander", probably won't let you install plugins, maybe more, I'll check.)
I just tried installing the hosted app, yes indeed, it is crippled beyond repair.
I googled it and you should be able to install it manually just fine to get around the limitations. I have tried installing it manually (not on SF though), so know the drill.
There is one limitation though, outbound connections are blocked. This means that you will need to install themes and plug-ins manually (but you can) and that plug-ins that rely on outbound connections doesn't work. (This means, no Akismet! : \ ) Migrating a existing Wordpress blog will most likely also have to be done manually.

studbrickmaster,
Using Wordpress.com is simply much better than those services in my opinion. I have tried some and was far from satisfied.
Downtime, poor performance, long pings, broken sites, random account/content deletion, older php/mysql/xxx versions than promised are all issues I have heard users of 000webhost complaining about. (Actually a few more than that.) I have experienced some of these myself on other hosts, including some other issues.
It looks like downtime, random account deleting/blocking and 'spam' about their paid offers happens the most common at 000webhost. (And then the whole fraud thing with their affiliate program which doesn't really matter here.)
You might be lucky and avoid these issues, but I'm no gambler...

On the other hand, paid web hosting isn't that expensive nowadays. I have considered it, I just haven't bothered looking after something that looks okay...

I use Wordpress to host my blog but have started using DropBox to host the program files. It works really well and it's super easy to use :)
