Ok, first you're going to want to sign in.
Nickname: What you want to be called; your screenname.
Channels: "#mindboards"
Then enter the reCAPTCHA... Don't check "Auth to services" yet... Click connect.

Give it a second while it logs you in, and soon you'll see a blank chat room that says:

Code: Select all

[time] == [username] has joined #mindboards
This means you're in. Now to register your Nickname.

After saying hello to anyone in the room, type:

Code: Select all

/msg nickserv register <password> <email address>
Where <email address> is the email address you want to register to, and <password> is the password you want to use. MAKE SURE that you don't include the < and >! Then follow the instructions. (It will send you an email telling you to enter a certain command to verify your address and password)

From now on,
A) No one else can use your screenname (now that you've registered it), and,
B) When you sign in, check "Auth to services" and enter your email address and password.

That's all! Technically, you don't have to register your screenname, and can keep signing in like in my first picture. BUT, that also means that other people can sign in with your nickname and pretend to be you.

Have a nice day,

I have used XChat in Ubuntu, and AFAIK, it is completely free. It also comes in a Windows flavor :).

Again, please read the topic before saying things like that. There already is a chat room (which you would know if you had read the entire topic).
