Help needed to finish Tilted Twister

Hello,

My son tried to build the Tilted Twister Robot from his 8527 Set (http://tiltedtwister.com/ttdownload.html), but it does not work properly. We have tried to resolve the issue but without success. The arm that holds the light sensor of the NXT does not turn enough to get above the Rubik's Cube.

Can someone give us a hint what is wrong?

I have even tried to exchange the motors but it did not help - so I suppose the motors are OK. Somehow the arm is not strong enough to push the touch sensor (you can see my son pushing it by hand). Then it does not turn enough.

Did you go through all the calibration steps?

The calibration process also fails. The sensor position is always wrong. The color test is OK.

Are your batteries fully charged? It looks like the motors are slow. Maybe it's a glitch in the code?

I'm using rechargable batteries at the moment. Can this be the root cause?

Could be. I think rechargeable batteries generally have less volts & amps than normal . I would try using with regular alkaline batteries or similar.

It looks like the arm motor, and the rotation motor are both working. It's just the sensor motor that doesn't work, correctly.

I think during the calibration process, you need to position the sensor, right? Is that what you've been doing? The arm seems to be moving as it should.

If you're sure you're doing the calibration process correctly, try changing out the wire to that motor. See if it works the same on other motors.

Thanks for your replies, but my son did not have the patience to wait until we can resolve the issue. He is building the Spike robot right now.

I will try to persuade him to have another go with Tilted Twister but I think it will be already next year

I know how that feels. I once made a motorized buggy with full suspension, and it actually worked pretty well. I was so eager to move on to something else that I didn't take a SINGLE PICTURE, let alone a video. So, that's one project I'll never see again.
