We bought my son (who loves legos) the Mindstorms NXT that he so despretly wanted. However, I am having major problems with this thing. Im running Mac 10.8.1. The NXT has been reset, and only clicking, no display or anything. I have the Mindstorm app installed but cannot figure out how to update the firmware.

I just need to get this thing working......

Any help????

Steve

have you got a Windows PC in range? (primarily, to download the fw).

One option, assuming that you have the LEGO FANTOM drivers for Mac OS X properly installed, would be to use my NeXTTools for Mac OS X to download the firmware image to your NXT. You should be able to do that via the LEGO MINDSTORMS software as well, however.

Have you tried pressing the reset button for longer than 5 seconds to make sure it is completely in firmware download mode and not halfway in-between in some weird state? This button is at the bottom of the technic pin hole below the USB port on the NXT. You can use a LEGO antenna or some other small instrument to push that button and hold it for at least 5 seconds. Make sure you have good batteries installed when you try to flash the firmware image to the NXT and also when you press the reset button.

The FANTOM driver download for MAC OS X that should work fine is here:

You can also get the driver from the full LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT software 2.0 download here:

My utilities are all on the BricxCC utilities page:
