How do I sync four motors with two NXT units?

I have a project where I am driving a large crankshaft that has three different crankarms. I have tried making the project work with two NXT motors, and while the motors do have enough power to drive the shaft, the use of only two motors causes the outside arms to "shift" inward since they are only being driven from a single side. I have tried redesigning the crankshaft several times, but have not found a better way to build it. The only other option I can think of is to add two more NXT motors.
Since the crankshaft is essentially one continuous piece, I need to ensure that all four motors are driving at the exact same speed, that they turn on and off at the same time, etc. I have never tried to sync two NXT bricks before so I do not even know where to start. Currently I am using RobotC 3.64. I would appreciate any thoughts and/or help with this.
