MoCo Pan unit for time lapse photography

This is a MoCo Pan mount for time lapse photography. In time lapse, you need to move slowly when panning, tiltling, or crawling. I have reduced the gearing for 112:1 motor to turntable.

I would like to get slower, and that may come on future builds. I was also trying to incorporate tilt, but my Nikon D3100 with battery grip and both batteries, and lens is too heavy. I may design it still and use my Blackberry 9700 or Nikon Coolpix L18 with it. I decided to use this still of control and motor mount to avoid having a trailing cable.

I havent started shooting with this rig yet, as I just finished building, blueprinting, and programming it.

Cool design, I like it.

To add tilt, perhaps you should make a cradle for the camera with a TT on each side (at center of gravity). That way, weight shouldn't be a big issue.

D3100 with 18-55 lens + battery grip + 2 batteries is just a hair over 1kg. That is alot of weight for lego to support.

It really depends on how you build it. doc222 has a huge biped that weighs (IIRC) over 4 kg. He used TT's for the joints, and they seem to do pretty well. Also, with a camera, you can find the center of gravity, so rotation power isn't a big issue, just support.

Turntables, I should have caught that one. My brain is mush right now. My wife dragged me out to a list of 5 garage sales.
