Thanks for this! Have you looked at ev3sources to see how communication protocol works? I suspect writing a program that chooses whether to scp the file or directly download it over USB would be a useful thing for linux development. it could be included as part of a makefile, for example. http://python-ev3.org/systemcommands.html is the relevant info I believe.
