Getting Mindstorms to see

Is it possible to get it to recognise numbers via a camera or an extra sensor, sorry i'm quite new to mindstorms, would it then be able to use the numbers in a calculation.

What do you mean by connected to a pc?

I think he means that you'd have the computer have a camera attached to it, and that you'd have some program running on the computer to send signals to your NXT if something happens on the camera.

If you don't want to do that, the only option I know of is the mindsensors NXTCam:
