Optically triggered webcam project question

Post by blue-moses »

Hi All,

I'm new to this site (and I did check the FAQ first! :)

We are interested in a project for photographing & taking video clips using a webcam that can be triggered by the Mindstorms cpu brick.

The project would have two major aspects:
(1) a trigger comprised of one or more of the Mindstorm sensors that could emit a signal (via the brick).
(2) A webcam that is then activated and controlled from the brick for taking single frames or multiple frames.

The webcam does not need to be moved; it will be fixed on a particular site (we're studying some animal behavior in a terrarium).

Questions:
1. Are there other projects that have used Mindstorms to control the camera in this manner?
2. Are there existing interfaces (i.e. cabling, ports, wireless), that support hooking a camera up to the cpu-brick? (note: I'd be happy to try using an old iPhone as the camera, but I thought a simple webcam would be better).
3. Any further thoughts would be most welcome!

Thanks in advance,
Mark
