Hi,
(This is a note to John Hansen regarding NeXT Tool on Mac OS X Yosemite.)
NeXT Tool for Mac OS X was working fine on Mac OS X until the most recent release, 10.10 (Yosemite).
I discovered that on a freshly installed Mac OS X 10.10 system, running NeXT Tool would result in a crash related to Bluetooth IO issues (don't have the exact error in front of me).
This is due to a missing nxt.dat file in the $HOME directory. I presume that if nxt.dat does not exist, NeXT Tool would attempt to enumerate all possible NXT devices via USB as well as Bluetooth. Unfortunately, since about Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) Bluetooth support has been problematic at best due to several Bluetooth routines being deprecated.
The good news is that this crash can be avoided if there you put a nxt.dat file in $HOME, I haven't tried if a blank file is sufficient, I just copied one from another Mac that was upgraded to Yosemite which had existing user accounts.
Next Tool on OS X Yosemite Issue and workaround
Re: Next Tool on OS X Yosemite Issue and workaround
Awesome. I can confirm that the blank nxt.dat file in $HOME worked for me. Brilliant workaround.
