Can't connect usb IR Tower to RCX2 in Windows 7

Post by foamcleaver »

When I fire up BricxCC in Windows 7 environment I tell the program to look for IR Tower, the green light glows for a fraction of a second then the laptop freezes and the only way I can get it back is to unplug it from the mains and remove the battery, then reboot.
I guess I need to set up the tower in a different way - at present it is as set up by RIS. Help!!

There are no Win 7 64bit drivers for the Lego USB IR Tower.

Well, then you may be in luck. Try using the drivers here (direct download link).

That's absolutely excellent. It's worked just fine for me. Thank you very much.

An even better source than Matt's RobotC link is the unofficial official LEGO MINDSTORMS 2.5 SDK page on Philo's site:

http://www.philohome.com/sdk25/sdk25.htm

The bricxcc home page links to Philo's page for the 2.5 SDK download. I should add some text to mention that it is not optional that you install the usb tower drivers if you are trying to use BricxCC with the USB tower and that if you have a multi-core or hyperthreaded CPU you need to get the updated tower drivers.
